Suicidal subject barricades self in Lecanto, later taken into custody
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, patrol units with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded out to 1245 West High Acres Street in Lecanto in response to a report of an armed, suicidal subject. Subsequently, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were deployed to assist.
Inverness man convicted on child porn charges

Crews battle Crumps Landing fire
Citrus County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office had units on scene for a reported fire at Crumps Landing in Homosassa. Crew members on scene were able to safely put out the fire. No one was injured during this unfortunate event. The main tiki hut was destroyed in the flames, however.

Illness temporarily closes county animal shelter
Citrus County Animal Services has temporarily closed the shelter, until further notice, due to an unknown highly contagious upper respiratory infection. The shelter medical staff and administration have consulted with Veterinarians from the University of Florida Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program who are experts in the field of treatment and management of illnesses in shelters.
