Sheriff’s Office makes largest fetanyl, meth bust in county history

On Jan. 20, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) added another accomplishment into the history books by seizing 1.6 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.8 ounces of powdered fentanyl.

“This is the largest seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Citrus County’s history. The amount of fentanyl seized could have killed hundreds of people,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast.

Seatbelt violation ends in drug charges

Thursday afternoon, March 14the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office’s Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in reference to multiple seatbelt violations, which eventually led to the arrest of the driver, 43-year-old Jessie Carver of Silver Springs.

Deputy Saayman conducted the traffic stop on the 1995 black BMW driven by Carver in the area of North McGee Drive and Norvell Bryant Highway in Hernando.

As Deputy Saayman was approaching the vehicle, he detected an odor of cannabis emitting from inside the vehicle. When asked about the odor, Carver openly admitted to having cannabis and displayed a burnt cannabis cigarette.

Deputies find meth during warrant process

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday found methamphetamine scattered throughout a home at 10700 W Woodland Place in Homosassa.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday found methamphetamine scattered throughout a home at 10700 W Woodland Place in Homosassa.

Detectives with the Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) obtained the search warrant after learning that the home was used to sell significant amounts of methamphetamine, the Sheriff’s Office said.

One of the home’s occupants, 47-year-old Crystal Huggins, was subsequently arrested as a result of the investigation.
