A former Citrus County Detention Facility security chief has been named warden of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in southeast Nebraska..

Todd Wasmer was previously chief of security for the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto. Wasmer assumes his new duties in August.

CCSO nabs cigarette heist suspects

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the July 20 robbery of a Hernando gas station’s convenience store.

Arrested were Natalie Olivera, 20, and Herbert Davis, 19, both of Tampa.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says that deputies were able to thwart that cigarette theft, and also help round up two suspects believed to be part of a tobacco theft ring spanning several counties.

Suicide suspect released from hospital, now faces charges

Ocala police today arrested a reported suicidal suspect who on July 19 barricaded himself in a Lecanto home.

Ocala police today arrested a reported suicidal suspect who on July 19 barricaded himself in a Lecanto home.

The Sheriff’s Office said today that Salazar has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. After being discharged from a Marion County hospital earlier today, Salazar was arrested by the Ocala Police Department on those charges.

New info released in suicidal suspect shooting in Lecanto

Four deputies involved in an incident involving the shooting of a man in Lecanto have been put on administrative leave.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) today released more information in the incident in which a suicidal suspect who was shot after barricading himself in Lecanto on July 19.

Four deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further investigation of the incident.

Inverness Sertoman Mark Avery has been named Tournament Chair for the November 24, 2019 “Golf for Kids” Tournament at Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club, the Oaks Course.

Mark has been with Inverness Sertoma for the past sixteen years and during his tenure has served as club president for four terms, sergeant at arms for five terms, chairman of the board for three terms and received his Tenure Award five years ago in 2013.

Mark is a great supporter of Sertoma and believes in the work of the local club. Mark likes helping people in his community and on a personal note Mark said, “Sertoma helped my grandmother get hearing aids about eight years ago or so, and she is now 95 years old.”

Suicidal subject barricades self in Lecanto, later taken into custody

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, patrol units with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded out to 1245 West High Acres Street in Lecanto in response to a report of an armed, suicidal subject.

Subsequently, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were deployed to assist.

Inverness man convicted on child porn charges

On April 11, 2018, a search warrant was executed at 1132 Stately Oaks Drive in Inverness after Detective Chris Cornell of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office’s High Tech Crimes Unit was able to identify and download child pornography from a computer at that address.

Herman Metcalf and two other family members were home at the time, and were subsequently interviewed when detectives arrived to serve the search warrant.

Crews battle Crumps Landing fire

Citrus County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office had units on scene for a reported fire at Crumps Landing in Homosassa.

Crew members on scene were able to safely put out the fire. No one was injured during this unfortunate event.

The main tiki hut was destroyed in the flames, however.

Household hazardous waste disposal program quarterly schedule

Citrus County Landfill’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal Program offers an additional drop-off day each quarter.

The next quarterly Saturday HHW drop-off day will be July 13, 2019, from 9am to 1pm,  230 W. Gulf to Lake Hwy, Lecanto, Fl. 34461.
