Tempers flared on Feb. 13 at the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting. The BOCC is not satisfied that the Nature Coast EMS (NCEMS) is providing quality ambulance service in the county. The meeting ended as the NCEMS lawyer attempted to speak, but was subsequently asked to sit down (February 13, 2020).

Rodriguez tapped to head Citrus County Community Services
Mariselle Rodriguez has taken over as the Citrus County Community Services director. She came to the job from Cleveland, Ohio. Rodriguez was formally introduced to the Board of Citrus County Commissioners at the BOCC’s regular meeting on Jan. 21.
Sheriff’s Office makes largest fetanyl, meth bust in county history
On Jan. 20, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) added another accomplishment into the history books by seizing 1.6 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.8 ounces of powdered fentanyl. “This is the largest seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Citrus County’s history. The amount of fentanyl seized could have killed hundreds of people,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast.
County demands EMS contract compliance
The Citrus County Commission is reacting to reports of poor response times by the Nature Coast EMS. The commission will send out a letter that requires NCEMS to comply with its county contract within 45 days of the letter’s receipt. (Jan. 7, 2020)

Hernando teen’s shooting under investigation
On Sunday at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to North Blue Bream Terrace in Hernando in reference to an accidental shooting involving minor siblings. Citrus County EMS response times questioned
A group of Ozello residents have complained that EMS response times are far higher than what they believe they should be. They told Citrus County Commissioners that, for them, the longest wait time for paramedic service by Naturecoast EMS was 80 minutes. (December 16, 2019).
Sheriff’s Office looking for Winn-Dixie robbery suspect
At approximately 8:09 a.m. on Sunday a black male with long dreadlocks entered the Winn Dixie store in Beverly Hills demanding money and fled behind the store on foot. If you live in this area please keep an eye out and report any suspicious behavior.
