Satellite recycling drop-off locations to close and consolidate at Central Landfill

Citrus County is removing the recycling containers from all Single Stream Recycling Drop-off sites located within the county.

This is effective immediately, following a Board of County Commissioners directive at their regular meeting Monday, April 13, 2020.

The Recycling Customer Service Area at the Central Landfill will remain open for recycling. The recycling area was recently updated, and a separate entrance was created just west of the landfill main entrance on SR44 Gulf-to-Lake Hwy.  There is no need to go through the main gate to recycle.

Visit or phone, 527-7670 for more information about recycling at the county landfill.

  1. WHY WHY WHY. Landfill is too far away. I can’t afford garbage pickup and I recycle so no need for garbage service. Does a person have to pay to recycle like using the landfill?
Don’t understand I pay for the landfill in my taxes but if I want to use it I have to pay again. Not fair.

  2. I’d like to know why they’re doing this. This is going to be an I convenience for me and my family. We are a heavy recycling family and now we have to incorporate into our schedule going into Lecanto for drop off? I can foresee a lot of people are going to stop recycling because of this. Shame.
