State Fire Marshal speaks to Hurricane Season

June 1 is the official start to the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and Florida’s Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater would like to remind Floridians to write down the State of Florida’s toll-free insurance helpline number (1-877-693-5236).

FEMA extends filing deadline for Hermine claims

The state Office of Insurance Regulation announced this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended a 60-day filing deadline to 90 days for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders making claims from the early September storm, (commencing on Aug. 31, 2016 through Sept. 9),  that swept through northern Florida.

FEMA gives relief to Hermine victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the State of Florida and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), announced today more than $7.3 million in disaster assistance grants and loans has been distributed to Hurricane Hermine-affected homeowners and renters.

To date, FEMA distributed $4.8 million in grants to individuals and households for temporary rental assistance, essential home repairs and other disaster-related needs.

CCSO: Beware of fraud, scams, price gouging

State and federal recovery officials encourage Florida residents to watch for and report any suspicious activity or potential fraud from scam artists, identity thieves and other criminals who may try to prey on survivors vulnerable due to the recent hurricanes.

Final pickup for storm debris scheduled

Citrus County will be conducting a final pickup for storm generated debris, including private roads, on the west side of U.S. 19.

Debris removal will begin on Monday Oct. 17.

All debris will be picked up by Oct. 26. Vegetation, and white goods (appliances), should be separated from other storm debris.

This will be the final storm-generated debris pickup.
