Withlacoochee State Trail segment closed for construction

Inverness — A half-mile portion of the Withlacoochee State Trail is closed to all trail users.

This closure is expected to last for approximately three to six weeks.

The closure begins at East David Street and continues north for approximately one half mile. The public will be restricted from entering the closed area from either end 24-hours per day during the closure period.

No detours will be provided; trail users will need to turn around at the closure sites or seek alternate routes using the nearest public roads.

Construction work on this segment will include removing existing asphalt, rebuilding the trail base, and repaving. The elevation will also be raised slightly to improve standing water issues.

The closure is part of a $1 million project to rebuild four sections of the 29 miles of trail in Citrus County and upgrade signing and pavement markings where the trail crosses CR 48 (East Orange Avenue) in Floral City.

All project construction is anticipated to be completed this summer.

Signs will be posted in advance and public notifications made for each segment closure. For a list of the areas where the trail will be closed and to sign up to receive project email alerts, please visit https://www.fdottampabay.com/project/741/443358-1-52-01.
