The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 27 proclaimed the week of March 6 through 9, 2018 as Newspaper in Education Week.

Newspaper in Education (NIE) is an international program that encourages the use of daily newspaper as a progressive teaching resource for students from primary through adult education levels.

For more than 30 years, the Tampa Bay Times Bay Times Newspaper in Education program has been a community partner, serving educators, students and families by providing funded newspapers, companion materials and instructional support.

The American Press Institute commemorates and celebrates Newspaper in Education Week annually during the first full school week in March.

The Board of County Commissioners recognizes March 6 through 9, 2018 as Newspaper in Education Week in Citrus County and calls the observance to the attention of all citizens.
