Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast on March 19 announced a major upgrade to the Citrus County Sheriff’s App, offering broadcasts of COVID-19 alerts from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is offering this feature as an additional measure to protect public health and assist the public in receiving timely and accurate information regarding COVID-19.

The app and the upgrade are available for FREE on both Android and iPhone devices. The upgraded app is an innovative response to help the public and local businesses stay current on COVID-19 information. App users can turn on the CDC alerts in the app by going to settings, tapping on “notification settings” and turning on CDC alerts.

The new in-app feature offers a subsection labeled “COVID-19 Local News” that will contain specific information regarding Citrus County such as office closures and changes in normal operations.

“The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office mobile app was developed in response to our community’s need to be informed,” Sheriff Prendergast said. “The in-app COVID-19 feature will ensure our community is receiving fast breaking news and credible information directly from the CDC and local news from our Emergency Management Team. Please share the app with your family, friends, and neighbors so they too can receive reliable news and alerts.”

The Citrus County Sheriff’s App is an unique tool used in delivering vital information. Other noteworthy features on the CCSO app include: latest press releases, sex offender look up, recent arrests, services and programs, and emergency management resources.
