Every Citrus County Commission meeting, the issue of a one-cent sales tax comes up like clockwork, and from a variety of angles.

Some are pushing for a one-cent sales tax to be put on the ballot, with the stipulation revenues would only be used for residential road resurfacing.

Commissioners: No new sales tax

Every time the Citrus County commission meets, there's always someone speaking at the "Open to the Public" dais trying to get commissioners to raise money for road resurfacing by instituting a one-cent sales tax.

The answer to that from county commissioners at every meeting is "no," and it was no different at Tuesday's commission meeting.

Citrus County makes investment in tourism

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) made a big investment in tourism this week.

Commissioners voted on Tuesday to raise the county’s current 3 percent Tourism Development Tax (TDT) to 5 percent.

The increase provides additional opportunities for the Citrus County Visitors and Convention Bureau to market the quickly growing Florida destination to domestic and international travelers.

County grapples with fire funding

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday voted 4-1 to proceed with the creation of a special taxing district to help fund fire services in the unincorporated portion of Citrus County.

The Inverness City Council on Monday voted to no longer participate in the county's MSBU, which helps fund personnel and equipment for the county's fire service, which falls under the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.

County revisits fire services funding

The Citrus County Commission today revisited funding for the county fire services during its public workshop set up for that purpose.
