Student history projects on display at museum

April 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - April 23, 2022 @ 4:00 pm

The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum is excited to share and display sixteen historical research projects completed by Citrus County middle and high school students, including exhibits, websites, and documentary films exploring the topic: “Debate and Diplomacy in History.”

These students, representing Inverness Christian Academy, 7 Rivers, and Solid Rock Christian Academy, will be taking their work to the state-level National History Day contest. Student projects will be on display at the museum from Tuesday, April 19 through Saturday, April 23, 2022.

A special reception will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 2:00pm to showcase the student documentary films. The Citrus County Historical Society will present two $250 prizes to the best in show in both the Junior Division (middle school) and Senior Division (high school). Come support local youth in the history and humanities at this free event!

National History Day is a year-long academic program focused on historical research, interpretation, and creative expression for 6th- to 12th-grade students. By participating in National History Day, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights, and artists as they create unique contemporary expressions of history. The experience culminates in a series of contests at the local and affiliate levels and an annual national competition in the nation’s capital in June.

The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm and is free to the public. For guided, school, or group tours, please contact the museum at (352) 341-6428.
