Businesses asked to identify Irma damage; Survey to help with disaster relief efforts

CLM logoOCALA, Fla. (Sept. 18, 2017) – Businesses damaged by Hurricane Irma in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region are encouraged to complete a Business Damage Assessment survey.

The survey will help the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) identify needs and the extent of assistance for impacted businesses.

Regional jobless rate inches up to 5.2%

OCALA, Fla. (July 21, 2017) – The unemployment rate for the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion was 5.2 percent in June, inching up 0.3 percent point over the month but a full 1.0 percent lower than the same time last year. Out of a labor force of 200,522, there were 10,487 unemployed.

Flight from Ocala leads to Inverness man's arrest

An Inverness man was arrested Monday night, after being pursued from Ocala by a Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Arrested was Michael Gordon Crabtree, 57, of Inverness, who was reported to have been operating his vehicle without proper registration.

Crabtree's arrest report said that a pursuit began in Ocala by a Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies, and then crossed county lines, at which time Citrus County deputies fell in behind the chase.

Shots fired at Sabal pipeline pipes leads to chase, suspect's death

Citrus County deputies, Marion county deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol was led on a wild chase from Marion to Citrus County after a man shot at a pipe in the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline. The man was stopped near Floral City, and when he engage deputies, he was killed in the process. (PHOTO: Citrus County Sheriff's Office on February 26, 2017).
Protests against the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline went to another level on Sunday when a man began shooting at the pipes in Marion County, and fled to Citrus County, where he died after being shot.
 
The name of the suspect was not immediately released.

Citrus County Commissioner and BOCC Chairman Scott Carnahan will continue to represent Citrus County on the Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority in 2017, along with newcomer Commissioner Jeff Kinnard, who replaced Commissioner Emeritus Dennis Damato.
