Firm awarded $134.6M Suncoast Parkway Construction Project

Lane Construction Corporation, a U.S. subsidiary of Salini Impregilo, has won the $134.6 million contract for highway construction to build a section of Suncoast Parkway 2, a new highway leading north of Tampa.

The project will involve the construction of 15 bridges as well as the road, drainage and associated work.

Public Education Foundation of Marion County receives grant to aid schools

The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF) recently awarded The Public Education Foundation of Marion County $59,546.95 in matching funds through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.

The grant funds will be used to help support the following programs: 

Citrus County lowers joblessness to 4.8 percent for September

Jobs artThe Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) reported on Friday that Citrus County's jobless number for September 2017 has been lowered from 5.9 percent in August to 4.8 percent for September.

Citrus County still remains the fourth highest in the state behind Hendry County (8.6%),  Hardee County (6.0%) and Glades County (5.3%).

Even so, rates across the state's counties show a definite trend downward.

Human remains found in Chatmire area

The Marion County Sheriff's Office on Monday reported that human remains were found on Friday in Chatmire.

MCSO's Major Crimes detectives responded to a vacant lot in the area of the 19800th block of SW 107th Lane in Chatmire in response to a report that human remains had possibly been located at that site.

During the course of the investigation, detectives, MCSO forensic technicians and officials with the Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Florida CA Pound Lab searched the area, and eventually located unidentified human remains.

FDOT adds new term to Suncoast Parkway II lexicon

The Florida Department of Transportation is looking at Citrus and Marion counties for corridors that would branch off the extension of the Suncoast Parkway II toll road

There has been a new term added to the Suncoast Parkway II project lexicon by the group responsible for extending the parkway from the terminus of U.S. 98 through Citrus County -- and that term is, "Coastal Connector".

The parkway will pick up where it left off and will travel for 13 miles. The county has also asked the Florida Department of Transportation's "Florida's Turnpike" authority for a 2-mile extension from where the 13th mile will end at State Road 44 in Inverness to County Road 486.

Businesses asked to identify Irma damage; Survey to help with disaster relief efforts

CLM logoOCALA, Fla. (Sept. 18, 2017) – Businesses damaged by Hurricane Irma in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region are encouraged to complete a Business Damage Assessment survey.

The survey will help the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) identify needs and the extent of assistance for impacted businesses.
