Board to wait for lawsuit, Legislature to pass medical marijuana policy

The Citrus County Commission will wait until a lawsuit over medical marijuana winds its way through the courts, and for the state Legislature to make up its mind before the county passes an ordinance governing the dispensing of the substance.

The board had before it a draft ordinance that would spell out where medical marijuana dispensaries would be located in the county, among other restrictions.

Citrus County detectives on Thursday arrested three Homosassa residents following the execution of a search warrant at 6381 South Canna Lilly Ave. in Homosassa.
The Sheriff's Office said that the residence has been a hotbed of criminal activity for months. 

Beverly Hills man sentenced to five years for drugs

Kasda Atkins, 34, of Beverly Hills, was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections after pleading no contest to Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell/Deliver, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell, and Possession of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, commonly known as Molly or Ecstasy) by Judge Ric Howard.

He was remanded into the custody of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office after the hearing to begin his sentence.

Sheriff's Office continues investigation into home-based drug sales

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office continues to focus on drugs being sold from homes.

The CCSO Tactical Impact Unit on Thursday announced two more people who were arrested in separate investigations of drug sales allegedly made at their residences.

Marijuana grow house discovered in Dunnellon

On Wednesday afternoon, the Tactical Impact Unit and Withlacoochee Electric conducted a power theft investigation at 5783 W Grovepark Road in Dunnellon.

During the investigation, two power diversions were discovered with power leading to the house and a tractor trailer located in the back yard.

Three people were arrested today after Citrus County deputies found drugs, cash and weapons in the Dunnellon area.
