The issue of mandatory garbage collection in Citrus County may be knocked down for now, but it's certainly not knocked out.

The Citrus County Commission will revisit the issue in the coming months, so residents will have to stay tuned (August 22, 2017)

The Citrus County Commission seems to have taken a softer stand on the issue of mandatory garbage collection.

Mandatory garbage collection still struggling

Garbage collectionThe Citrus County Commission on Tuesday seemed to take a softer stand on the issue of mandatory garbage collection.
 
Discussion among commissioners ranged from topics about the possibility of using a regional landfill based on a study recently completed -- but deemed by Commission Chairman Scott Carnahan to be useless since the plan will not be used -- to space left in the county's landfill to flow control.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office today announced that the inmate that CCSO was helping Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) find has been found and arrested.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said shortly before 10 a.m. today that Joshua Holmes, 35, was found by HCSO deputies in Masaryktown near U.S. 41.

Central Landfill opens expanded Recycling Center

The Citrus County Division of Solid Waste Management announces that the expanded recycling center has opened at the Central Landfill, located at 230 W Gulf to Lake Highway in Lecanto.

County announces second phase of recycling center closures

The county on Monday will engage in its second phase of closing county recycling centers, having voted 5-0 on March 14 to close all recycling centers except the county's landfill recycling center in Lecanto, only a couple of miles from Inverness.
 
Beginning April 3, county residents will have to travel from where they live to the county landfill to deposit their clean recyclables.
