Homosassa man reported missing

Have you seen this missing man?

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking the whereabouts of Ryan Michael McClellan.

McClellan is 33 years old, 5’6” tall, 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has not been heard from since Sept. 16. He is not at his home in Homosassa. He may be in his 2003 Silver Jeep SUV, with Florida tag 3903VD.

If you see McClellan, or know of his whereabouts, please call Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and ask for Major Crimes, at 352-726-1121. If you wish to give information anonymously, please contact 1-888-ANY-TIPS.

Tempers flare during Homosassa park discussion

Tempers flared among community groups and Citrus County commissioners on Tuesday during a discussion about funding for a planned family park along Old Homosassa waterfront property.

The community and county are working together to establish the Old Homossasa Heritage Waterfront Park.

But it comes at a cost.

Citrus County Administrator Randy Oliver was notified by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on July 18 that Citrus County’s requested funding of the State Road 700 (U.S. Hwy 98/West Ponce De Leon Boulevard) landscape project was approved for $395,000.

Citrus County commissioners and members of the public joined together to honor a deceased local icon by putting icon Jim Bitter's name on the Halls River Bridge in Homosassa.

Also next to Bitter's name will be a military Purple Heart emblem to honor his service in the Korean War. (July 11, 2017)

Halls River Bridge keeps name, but also honors environmental activist

Homosassa's Hall's River Bridge will still be called that, but there will be a second sign that honors longtime environmental activist Jim Bitter.

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on Tuesday voted 5-0 to pass the measure.

The sign over the bridge will now read, "Halls River Bridge". Underneath that will be a second sign that will have the Purple Heart symbol and the words, "James C. Bitter, Purple Heart Recipient."

Homosassa man killed after crashing into billboard sign

The Florida Highway patrol says a Homosassa man was killed on Saturday after his vehicle struck a billboard sign and he was ejected.

The man has been identified as Wilmer Hager, 29.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that the incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. The FHP incident report says Hager was driving westbound on Norvell Bryant Highway at high speeds when he lost control of his vehicle just east of the entrance to the Brentwood Subdivision..
