A truck interrupted work on Thursday on the Halls River Bridge in Homosassa.

For the majority of the day, the construction-related accident made the bridge completely impassable.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office had to use other resources, such as launching boats from the fire departments, to ensure emergency services were available to those in need. Citrus County Road Maintenance and the construction company worked together to stabilize the incident and return travel to the bridge as quickly as possible.

No injuries were reported in the accident.

The Citrus County Commission today denied a project planned for West Halls River Road in Homosassa by a 5-0 vote.

A number of environmental groups and nearby residents in the area combined to ask the commission to deny the application. And it was a packed house.

The project had changed from its 2011 appearance before the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), which had a site plan for 31 cabins and a restaurant in an approximately 11-acre parcel along the road (see also the video at the end of this story).
