County names new planning, development director

Citrus County Administrator Brad Thorpe announced Friday Jenette Collins will be the new Planning & Development Director for Citrus County.

Collins has been serving as the Land Development Director since 2010.

Health Foundation urged to sign HCA letter

INVERNESS - A day after the Citrus County Hospital Board of Trustees (CCHB) unanimously voted to approve the Letter of Intent (LOI) to lease the Citrus Memorial Hospital to Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the CCHB urged the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation (Foundation) to approve the LOI at its next meeting on Monday, Nov. 23.

INVERNESS - The Citrus County Hospital Board of Trustees (CCHB) on Wednesday night voted to unanimously approve the Letter of Intent (LOI) to lease the Citrus Memorial Hospital to Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

By doing so, the CCHB said, it sends a clear message to the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation that the CCHB is committed to closing this transaction and helping the hospital finally obtain financial stability.

Hernando home destroyed in blaze

A Sunday evening fire destroyed a 640-square-foot rental home in Hernando.

No injuries were reported.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office, Division of Fire Rescue, was dispatched at 8:04 p.m. to the home at 65480 N. Sourgum Terrace.

Three Sisters Springs: Jewel of Citrus County

Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Fla.

Three Sisters Springs has been a largely unadvertised special attraction in Citrus County for generations. But today, it's the Jewel of Citrus County.

For a time, though, its fate was uncertain.

Outside interests eventually purchased the property, and there were concern by local environmental groups and residents that the springs, which are home to state-protected manatees, would be endangered with any development there.
