Withlacoochee water levels continue to rise

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office reported on Saturday that, due to rainfall and other factors caused by Hurricane Irma, the Withlacoochee River water level continues to rise. 

Water is already reported around and in homes near Istachatta and Trails End Road in Floral City, the CCSO  said, and points to the north, including Arrowhead, are subject to increased water level and potential flooding. 

Deputies looking for bank robbery suspect

BB&T Bank in Crystal River

The BB&T bank at U.S.19 and South Venable in Crystal River had to be closed closed due to a robbery at about 3:15 p.m., the Citrus County Sheriff's Office reported on Wednesday.

Construction accident halts work on Halls River Bridge

A truck interrupted work on Thursday on the Halls River Bridge in Homosassa.

For the majority of the day, the construction-related accident made the bridge completely impassable.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office had to use other resources, such as launching boats from the fire departments, to ensure emergency services were available to those in need. Citrus County Road Maintenance and the construction company worked together to stabilize the incident and return travel to the bridge as quickly as possible.

No injuries were reported in the accident.

Escaped Hernando County inmate captured

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office today announced that the inmate that CCSO was helping Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) find has been found and arrested.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said shortly before 10 a.m. today that Joshua Holmes, 35, was found by HCSO deputies in Masaryktown near U.S. 41.

Two county water-quality projects get state funding

Under the leadership of Governor Rick Scott, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced a suite of 40 projects that will receive $50 million from the Fighting for Florida’s Future budget to improve water quality, reduce nutrient loading, recharge water supply and protect habitat in Florida’s iconic spring systems.

This includes a state investment of more than $9 million to protect springs in Southwest Florida, including Aripeka, Weeki Wachee, Kings Bay, Crystal and Rainbow springsheds.

County breaks ground for CR 491 project

More than 30 people attended the County Road 491 widening project groundbreaking ceremony, including Commissioners Brian Coleman, Jeff Kinnard, Ron Kitchen and Jimmie T. Smith. Also attending were County Administrator Randy Oliver, County staff, community members and representatives from project partners, Pegasus Engineering and Commercial Industrial Corporation. The Citrus County Commission on Wednesday broke ground for Phase 1 of the Roadway and Regional Stormwater and Utility Improvements Project for County Road 491.

Master of ceremonies was Citrus County Commission Chairman Scott Carnahan, who officiated over ceremonies at the corner of CR491 and State Road 44.
