Dean pole barn burns; no injuries

Citrus County firefighters on Wednesday evening spent their efforts in battling a fire in a pole barn belonging to former State Sen. Charlie Dean.

No injuries were reported during the fire at 12163 East Gulf to Lake Highway (State Road 44) in Inverness, firefighters said.

Units from Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue responded at approximately 7:37 p.m. and found a large pole barn containing multiple pieces of farm equipment, a van, and a motorhome fully involved in fire. In addition, a dump truck that was parked next to the pole barn was also fully involved.

Dean approves appointment of new corrections pick

Sen. Charlie Dean (R-Inverness) today gave his approval to Governor Rick Scott's appointment of Julie Jones to head the state's Department of Corrections.

Jones officially begins work in that position on Jan. 5.

"I am so excited by the Governor's announcement of Julie Jones as the next Secretary for the Department of Corrections," Sen. Dean said. "I have known and worked with Julie during my Legislative career and know her to be a consummate professional."

Sen. Dean to file bills related to Duke, PSC

State Senator Charlie Dean (R-Inverness) today announced his intention to file two bills related to Duke Energy and the Public Service Commission for the 2015 Legislative Session.

"As I said at my appearance before the Public Service Commission at their hearing on the meter rerouting issue, I am committed to sponsoring legislation to address this issue as well as the ongoing issue of Nuclear Cost Recovery," Dean said.

Sen. Dean appears before PSC in Tallahassee

Senator Charles Dean (R-Inverness) appeared today before the Florida Public Service Commission’s special meeting to address the Duke Energy Meter Rerouting issue.

Sen. Dean's appearance at the meeting follows a letter he sent to the PSC last week, in which he outlined his concerns.

“I want to thank Chairman Graham and the Public Service Commission for calling this special meeting today,” Senator Dean said.

Dean receives prestigious fraternity membership

State Sen. Charlie DeanState Senator Charles Dean (R-Inverness) on Sunday was honored as an Honorary Member of The Florida Blue Key Honor Fraternity.

The Honorary Membership was awarded to Senator Dean for his "outstanding ability, leadership and service to the University of Florida."
