Inverness fire claims garage, but pet saved

A large garage caught fire and spread to the main house but firefighters were able to get the fire under control before it did too much damage to the house. No one was injured.

A fire in Inverness today claimed a family's garage, but their home and family dog were saved.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office, Division of Fire Rescued responded to the residential structure fire at 8:06 a.m. at 7903 E.Gator Court.

Engine 2 with a crew of three firefighters from the Inverness Station arrived on-scene at 8:18 a.m. and found a detached 780-square-foot garage fully involved.

Woman reports attack at Kings Bay park

A young woman on Monday reported at about 11:30 p.m. that she had been attacked by three dark-skinned males who were wearing dark-colored clothing while she was at Kings Bay Park.

One of the black males she described as having long, dreadlock-styled hair. A second black male was described as having medium length dreadlock-styled hair. The third black male was described as having short hair.

2 arrested after Hernando meth investigation

Two were arrested following a search warrant in Hernando on Tuesday morning.

Detectives with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office's Tactical Impact Unit this morning executed a search warrant at 3969 E. Withlacoochee Trail, Hernando, after learning the property was used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue Hazardous Materials Team responded to assist with the investigation due to potentially hazardous materials.

Man charged with video voyeurism

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday arrested Gregory Whitaker, 53, of Hernando after he was allegedly caught using his cell phone to spy under a young girl's skirt in the Inverness Walmart grocery store. the CCSO said.

The CCSO said the teenager was with her father inside the store when Whitaker, who was using a motorized scooter, allegedly waved his cell phone under the girl's skirt and took a picture.

Hernando siblings charged with animal cruelty

An elderly Hernando brother and sister were arrested on Wednesday and charged with animal cruelty.

Arrested were Wayne Allan Dennis, 50 and his sister, Diane Lee Dennis, 55.

Citrus County Sheriff's deputies were called out shortly after 9 a.m. to 4722 N. Redmond Ave. to investigate. They found approximately 42 cats inside the home, a strong odor of animal waste and fleas had infested the home, the arrest report said.
