Sheriff's Office issues scam alert

Scam Alert signThe Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday said it wants to alert county residents to a scam that appears to be active in our county.

A caller pretending to be with the "Citrus County Warrants Division" is contacting residents and telling them that they have a warrant and they must pay a fine or they will be taken to jail.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday that the serial bank robber responsible for several bank robberies in surrounding counties, including Citrus, is behind bars in Hernando County with several arrest warrants stacked against him.

On Sept. 6 John Goff, 46, of Eufala Ala., walked into the BB&T Bank in Crystal River, demanded money and fled the scene on foot.

Sheriff offers computer access to storm victims

CCSO StarFor those residents who don't have access to computers, but who need FEMA aid, the Sheriff's Office has offered three locations  where residents can go online to apply for aid.

Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast announced on Wednesday that residents can visit three different Sheriff’s Office locations to use a computer to apply for disaster assistance from FEMA.

Citrus County Deputy Jonathan Behnen was honored today as Local Law Enforcement Officer of the year in ceremonies today in Tallahassee.

The Key Training Center ended its 2016 Run for the Money telethon Saturday having collected $206,310.75, according to Key Center Executive Director Melissa Walker.
