An arrest warrant was granted today by the State Attorney’s Office for 62-year-old Michael Ball of Beverly Hills.

Ball has been arrested and charged with second-degree urder in connection to the shooting that occurred in Beverly Hills on March 25 in which Ball is said to have fatally shot a fellow resident of the neighborhood during a verbal altercation.

Ball remains in the Citrus County Detention Facility, with no bond.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office has commended the work of its Major Crimes Detectives assigned to this case, the deputies and Crime Scene Specialists who responded out to the scene and CCSO partners at the State Attorney’s Office.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim in this case, whose lives will be forever changed by the events of that morning,” said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast.

Shortly before 8 a.m. On March 25, deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Beverly Hills neighborhood in response to shots fired.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with witnesses and the 62-year-old shooter. The witnesses said that the shooter was engaged in an argument with the victim, a 32-year-old resident of the neighborhood. As the incident escalated the shooter fired a weapon at the victim, hitting him in the chest.

Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Services attempted to perform life-saving measures; however, the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by EMS.

Deputies immediately took the shooter into custody for additional questioning. This case is still developing at this time, with more information pending an autopsy. Presently, the shooter has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.
