PSC approves utility storm-hardening plans

TALLAHASSEE - This year’s hurricane season is just about over, but the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is ensuring that the state’s five investor-owned electric utilities (IOUs) are always prepared for severe weather.

Today, the PSC approved Storm Hardening plans for Florida’s IOUs to protect consumers against widespread storm outages during severe weather.

Plans approved today were submitted by Florida Power & Light Company, Duke Energy Florida, Inc., Tampa Electric Company, Gulf Power Company, and Florida Public Utilities Company.

An unknown elderly male is being sought by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office for robbery.

The suspect is said to have walked into Brashear’s Pharmacy in Lecanto with a 12-inch knife with a curved blade, and demanded prescription medications.

Hernando couple: Help find Parkinson’s cure

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Hernando residents Richard Hoffmann, Pharm. D., and his wife, Meg, are asking care partners to join them in helping to find the cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The Hoffmans are also Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) Research Advocates, and say this message is particularly important during November’s National Family Caregivers Month.

After a year of investigations, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Impact Unit detectives and FDLE agents on Thursday launched search warrants in three smoke shops selling illegal synthetic cannabis.

Synthetic cannabis is commonly known as Spice, or K2.

Vicki Macko, 54, owner of Blowin’ Smoke in Hernando, was arrested on two counts of sale of a controlled substance.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and Citrus County Fire Services became a single entity on Saturday during a special swearing-in ceremony at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto.

Families and friends of firefighters were on hand for the ceremony, an historic first for Citrus County, and of note throughout the state of Florida and the nation.
