Historical Society Jazz Concert

What a summer we have had! From the Beach Boys and their band the Corvairs to Roy Orbison and Conway Twitty to Elvis, our concerts have been sold out and we thank you all for your support.  We invited you to the beach and you came, beach balls and all.

Now fast forward to the fourth and final concert of the series on Thursday, Sept. 21, which brings in the Valerie Gillespie Ensemble.

Gillespie has played alto saxophone professionally since age 14. Over the years she has added to her repertoire, and now plays soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone sax, as well as flute, piccolo, and clarinet. She is also an adjunct faculty member at The University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, and Hillsborough Community College in Tampa.  She earned her BFA from Carnegie Mellon with a major in Classical Saxophone and her MM in Jazz Saxophone from the University of South Florida.

Valerie has played with national icons including Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, George Burns, Natalie Cole, Joan Rivers, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, and Dionne Warwick, among many others. She has traveled with the Xavier Cugat Orchestra throughout the United States and Japan, and performs regularly with Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge.

Call (352) 634-3428 to reserve a seat at $25 per person, which includes light appetizers and a cash beverage station. All proceeds benefit the Inverness Cultural Heritage Council and the Citrus County Historical Society, Inc.’s exhibits, programs, and preservation activities.

Our mission is to promote and provide accessible educational, cultural and musical events for residents and visitors, while maintaining the integrity of the museum, along with the preservation of the artifacts and collections at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum.
