County offers veterans bus rides to Gainesville VA

Citrus County Transit (CCT) provides transportation for Citrus County veterans to the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Gainesville.

This service is offered on the first Wednesday - and the third Thursday - of each month.

There is no passenger count requirement for veterans.

Services are primarily funded by the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners, and are provided free, unless otherwise stipulated.

VFW donates American flag

Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue would like to thank District 7 VFW for their generous donation of an American Flag. The flag will be displayed from fire rescue’s Tower 1 engine during events for the community to enjoy. The flag is 29 x 40 feet, and usually costs anywhere from $800 to $1,000. The last time fire rescue received a donation of a flag like this was five years ago, also from District 7 VFW.  (March 2014)

Inverness War Memorial slated for relocation

Citrus County veterans and prominent community leaders are partnering in an effort to relocate the war memorial in Inverness.

On Dec. 3, 2013, local attorney Clark Stillwell addressed the Inverness City Council on behalf of the Citrus County Historical Society, representatives of the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and representatives of the City of Inverness.
