Governor Scott presents service medal to veterans

Florida Governor Rick Scott made an appearance today at the National Guard Armory in Crystal River to honor veterans.

Gov. Scott presented all of the veterans in attendance with the Governor's Veterans Service Medal.

Many veterans were on hand to receive the medal, including many Citrus County Sheriff's Office employees. Speaking with evident sincerity, the governor expressed his gratitude for all of those who have served our country.

Sheriff Mike Prendergast is very passionate about our veterans and was on hand to shake hands and thank everyone there. 

Floral City shootings leave two men injured

Two people were injured after a Floral City homeowner shot them. At this time it appears the men may have been trying to break into the homeowner's camper (November 20, 2017)

Two people were shot by a Floral City homeowner during what appears to be an attempt to break in to his camper.

The two unnamed suspects were airlifted to Ocala suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded to a home on Sunray Lane in Floral City on Monday before 2 pm.

It appeared that the two people had been shot by someone living inside the residence, the CCSO said.

Citrus County Utilities wins 2017 WaterSense® Partner of the Year award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Citrus County Utilities with a 2017 WaterSense Partner of the Year Award for its major contributions to WaterSense and water efficiency in 2016.

The utility received one of 20 WaterSense awards today at the WaterSmart Innovations Conference in Las Vegas for helping Americans to save water, energy, and money.

BB&T bank robbery suspect now in custody

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday that the serial bank robber responsible for several bank robberies in surrounding counties, including Citrus, is behind bars in Hernando County with several arrest warrants stacked against him.

On Sept. 6 John Goff, 46, of Eufala Ala., walked into the BB&T Bank in Crystal River, demanded money and fled the scene on foot.

Duke Energy Foundation increases Hurricane Irma relief contributions to $1 million

Donations include those distributed to United Way of Citrus County.

Withlacoochee water levels continue to rise

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office reported on Saturday that, due to rainfall and other factors caused by Hurricane Irma, the Withlacoochee River water level continues to rise. 

Water is already reported around and in homes near Istachatta and Trails End Road in Floral City, the CCSO  said, and points to the north, including Arrowhead, are subject to increased water level and potential flooding.
