The Citrus County Sheriff's Office and Citrus County Sheriff's Fire Rescue on Friday celebrated Fire Rescue Chief Jim Goodworth for more than 34 years of significant contributions to public safety in the Citrus County community and to his past six years with the Sheriff's Office.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office and Fire Rescue on Friday celebrated the early retirement of Fire Rescue Chief Jim Goodworth, and noted his accomplishments during his more than 34 years of service.

Goodworth had previously announced that he would retire on Aug. 4.

Goodworth was well known among members of the county, law enforcement and fire communities for public safety excellence in the Citrus County community, and for his noteworthy track record during the past six years with the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Prendergast presented Goodworth with a Meal of Commendation for his long years of service and dedication to the county, Sheriff's Office and community.

The county is looking for a replacement for Goodworth to lead fire services when it returns on Oct. 1 to the county's oversight from the Sheriff's Office.
