Citrus County Qualifies for FEMA Individual Assistance

On September 13, Citrus County qualified for FEMA Individual Assistance. Homeowners, renters and business owners in Citrus County may now apply for federal disaster assistance for uninsured and underinsured damage and losses resulting from Hurricane Irma. Individuals will need to register with FEMA through the official FEMA website. The County cannot by law be involved with this process. Citizens without power or internet may go to Citrus County Libraries for computer access.

Citrus Free Jam Concert canceled

Due to possible thunderstorms and potential heavy rain on Saturday night, the Citrus Free Jam Concert (for Middle and High School students)scheduled at Lecanto Park has been canceled.

The Anti-Drug Coalition and Citrus County Parks and Recreation Departmet, in conjunction with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, feel it is in the best interest of those who would be attending tomorrow night that the event be cancelled and moved to a new date.

Child advocate volunteers sought for Guardian ad Litem program

Guardian Ad Litem LogoThe Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program is currently in desperate need of volunteers to be advocates for abused, neglected or abandoned children whose cases are in the court system.

A GAL is a trained volunteer appointed by the court to advocate on behalf of a child. The GAL becomes familiar with the child’s case and makes recommendations to help ensure a safe, stable and permanent environment for the child.

Temporary traffic changes at U.S. 19 and Homosassa Trail intersection

Due to drainage construction work, traffic has been shifted on U.S. 19 (Suncoast Boulevard) near West Homosassa Trail.

As a result, the southbound US 19 left turn onto eastbound Homosassa Trail is now temporarily closed.

Homosassa Trail on the west side of US 19 is also temporarily closed to all traffic. Drivers going to the shopping plaza on the west side of US 19 need to use one of the entrances to the parking lot that is north of Homosassa Trail.

The temporary closures and detour will be in place for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Gym passes available at Central Ridge Community Center

Citrus County Parks and Recreation is announcing the enhancement of the Gym at the Central Ridge Community Center at 77 Civic Circle in Beverly Hills.

Parks and Recreation has recently acquired specialized equipment that works every part of the body with easy-to-use devices.

The gym is open to all county residents from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Monthly passes are $10 per person. Staff is available to give you a tour of the facility and register you for a pass.
