Citronelle recycling drop-off center closed

The Citrus County Division of Solid Waste Management reports that, effective immediately, the Citronelle Recycling Drop-off Collection Center, located on West Dunklin Street in Citronelle, is closed.

The closure is due to the high incidence of illegal dumping at that site.

Residents in that area wishing to recycle are reminded that the nearest recycling center is the Citrus Springs Recycling Drop-off Collection Center, located just off Citrus Springs Boulevard, one-half mile from US 41, in Citrus Springs.

County OK's private road maintenance program

The county commission on July 8 approved an administrative regulation that provides for a maintenance program for private roads was approved.

Petitioned action on West Indian Manatee may be warranted

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today it is moving forward on a status review for the West Indian manatee following an evaluation of information submitted in support of a 2012 petition to reclassify the species, including its subspecies, the Florida manatee and Antillean manatee, from endangered to threatened.

Clerk of Court warns of jury scammers

Angela Vick, the Citrus County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, says there is a nationwide identity theft scam involving callers identifying themselves as “jury personnel.”

The aim of the scam, Vick says, is for the “jury” callers to get victims’ personal and financial information.

In a special news release on Thursday, the clerk’s office said the “jury” scammers first identify themselves as jury personnel in an attempt to solicit personal information, such as social security numbers and bank account information.

Sheriff's Office releases scam alert for Facebook users

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be aware of a lottery scam hitting the popular social media site, Facebook.

The scam is through the chat function on the site as someone could be posing as your friend on Facebook.

Here’s how the scam works:

Property Appraiser issues June 1 taxable value estimates to taxing authorities

Citrus County Property Appraiser Les Cook today announced that the June 1 estimates of Taxable Values have been issued to all Citrus County taxing authorities.

These estimates are based upon market conditions as of January 1, 2014, required by law and provide taxing authorities with a vital element for the process of developing their budgets.
