Two arrested after warrant search in Inverness

Two people were arrested on Monday following the serving of a warrant warrant at a home in Inverness.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office was assisted by its SWAT team during the search at 823 Poplar St.

Detectives served the warrant after it was learned the residence was used to sell a variety of drugs, the CCSO said. Today's operation was the culmination of a several month investigation into illegal drug sales at the home, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is canvassing the area near U.S. 19 and 98 in Homosassa and near the Hernando County line.

The CCSO is assisting Hernando County Sheriff's Office with trying to locate escaped inmate Joshua Holmes, 35, who was on a work detail at the Northwest Solid Waste Management Facility (landfill) located on Norris Bishop Loop.

Holmes and two other inmates were working under the supervision of Hernando County landfill employees at the time of the occurrence.

Thanks to project contractor Commercial Industrial Corporation (CIC), the project has become a “best practices” for construction debris repurposing.

Hackers take down appraiser websites in Citrus, Manatee

This notice was posted on Monday following a hack attack at property appraisers' web sites in Citrus and Manatee counties (August 14, 2017)

The Citrus County Property Appraiser's website and Manatee County Property Appraiser were hacked on Monday.

It is thought that "Iranian hackers" took down the sites, and some media have reported that the two sites had an image with the words, "Hacked" and "Hacked by Iranian Hackers."

"You may have seen that our Property Appraiser website has supposedly been hacked," wrote Citrus County Property Appraiser Les Cook on the appraiser's facebook page on Monday night.

Duke Energy Florida eel grass giveaway

As part as Duke Energy’s commitment to the environment and community, the company’s Crystal River Mariculture Center will be giving away free eelgrass to local residents while supplies last.

Duke Energy, in partnership with Save Crystal River, will be teach Citrus County coastal residents how to harvest, grow and plant eelgrass.

Residents will receive both pots and bare root plants, along with supplies and instructions for planting and growing.

Child advocate volunteers sought for Guardian ad Litem program

Guardian Ad Litem LogoThe Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program is currently in desperate need of volunteers to be advocates for abused, neglected or abandoned children whose cases are in the court system.

A GAL is a trained volunteer appointed by the court to advocate on behalf of a child. The GAL becomes familiar with the child’s case and makes recommendations to help ensure a safe, stable and permanent environment for the child.
