Adoption fees waived for all dogs available for adoption at Citrus County Shelter

Let’s clear the kennels at the Citrus County Animal Shelter! The Shelter is way over capacity and dogs continue to come into the shelter daily.

In an effort to clear out the kennels and make room for more dogs, we are waiving adoption fees until further notice on all dogs that are currently available for adoption.

Citrus County residents, however, will be required to pay $10 for county registration tag.

FHP updates vehicle info in Oct. 13 fatal hit-and-run

The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking help in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday, Oct. 13 in Lecanto.

Citrus County Sheriff's office deputies assisted troopers with the accident that occurred at the intersection of West Southern Street and South Fairland Terrace in Lecanto at approximately 10:20 p.m.

Citrus County lowers joblessness to 4.8 percent for September

Jobs artThe Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) reported on Friday that Citrus County's jobless number for September 2017 has been lowered from 5.9 percent in August to 4.8 percent for September.

Citrus County still remains the fourth highest in the state behind Hendry County (8.6%),  Hardee County (6.0%) and Glades County (5.3%).

Even so, rates across the state's counties show a definite trend downward.

Man reported missing since Sept. 21

Paul Johnson

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the whereabouts Paul Johnson.

He is a 53-year-old white male, 5’10” tall, 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Although Johnson has not been seen since Sept. 21, he has been in touch with his girlfriend. He will not reveal his whereabouts, authorities have said. He does suffer from various medical conditions, and does not have medications in his possession.

The Sheriff's Office suggests he may be enroute to Cocoa Beach, or there is a remote possibility he may have headed to Merrimack County in New Hampshire.

There are approximately 30 collection vehicles working daily in Citrus County.
