Veterans Day in Inverness

City offices are closed in observance of Veteran's Day.

Veteran's Day Parade begins at 10 AM, starting at Citrus High School exit on Hwy 44, heading east on Hwy 41/44 to Courthouse Square, where a memorial service will be conducted on the courthouse lawn. Expect traffic diversion & delay.

BOCC honors veterans during special week

The Board of County Commissioners are pictured with representatives of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter No.192

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on Oct. 25, proclaiming the week of Oct. 29 through Nov. 14, 2016 as “Veterans Appreciation Weeks” in Citrus County, Florida and has designated Nov. 11, 2016, as “Veterans Day” in Citrus County, Florida.

This year “Veterans Appreciation Weeks” has been set aside to honor the Korean War Era Veterans.

Floral City man faces sexual battery charge

Bobby Joe Greene, 56, of Floral City, has been arrested and charged with sexual battery on an 8-year-old boy.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said on Friday that once detectives received a tip about the alleged offense, they worked literally around the clock until an arrest was made.

According to Greene's arrest report, the boy was under Greene's care. The boy is said to have told several of his relatives that Greene sexually abused him.

During a forensic interview with child services, the boy said Greene sodomized him.

PSC opens cost-recovery hearing for utility companies

Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold its annual Cost Recovery Hearing from Wednesday through Friday to determine 2017 cost recovery charges for customers of Florida Power & Light Company, Duke Energy Florida (DEF), Tampa Electric Company, Gulf Power Company, and Florida Public Utilities Company.

Man once shot in Citrus County on lam from Ormond Beach cops

The man who police say robbed the Ormond Beach Wal-Mart, then stole a teenager's car at gunpoint, was shot four times by a Citrus County deputy in 2012 after the law enforcement officer said Nicholas Dinovo grabbed a gun from his waistband.

FEMA extends filing deadline for Hermine claims

The state Office of Insurance Regulation announced this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended a 60-day filing deadline to 90 days for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders making claims from the early September storm, (commencing on Aug. 31, 2016 through Sept. 9),  that swept through northern Florida.

Deputies looking for home invasion suspect

On Oct. 10, 2016 at approximately 9 p.m., a home invasion was reported to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

A warrant has been issued for white male suspect Dustin Ray Spangler. Spangler is 5’8” tall, approximately 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
