Sheriff's Office warns of new IRS scam


The Internal Revenue Service has issued an alert to taxpayers and tax professionals to be on guard against fake e-mails purporting to contain an IRS tax bill related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

September 2016 is National Sewing Month in Citrus County

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on Sept. 13, 2016, proclaiming September 2016 as National Sewing Month in Citrus County.

President Ronald Regan proclaimed the first National Sewing Month while he was in office. We recognize local non-profit sewing groups for offering classes, special sales events, sewing for charity events, and for bringing awareness to our communities many needs.

Scott asks Obama for disaster declaration

TALLAHASSEE – Governor Rick Scott on Monday requested that President Obama make a major disaster declaration for Florida due to severe storms and flooding that impacted communities and businesses throughout the state following Hurricane Hermine.

Amber Alert canceled for missing Williams children

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Monday announced that the missing Williams children were located in Georgia and are safe and sound.

The Georgia State Police located Ryan and Stacey Williams in Catoosa County, Georgia. The children were with them.

Citrus County detectives discovered new information today that led to an Amber Alert being issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for two missing children.

Rylan Williams, 3, and Mason Williams, 1, were taken by their mother out of the home of their custodial guardian on Saturday evening.  Rylan was last seen wearing a pink dress with no shoes, and Mason was wearing an orange shirt and a diaper.

Mother kidnaps children from guardian

A homeless woman on Saturday is said to have kidnapped her children from the home of the children's guardian in Lecanto.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Suspect charged with Advance America robbery

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in connection with the Sept. 3 robbery of the Advance America business in Inverness.

Deputies on Friday arrested on Aaron Jabar Betsy, 36, of Citrus Springs on a probable cause warrant in connection with the case.

Commission passes tentative budget in 3-2 vote

The Citrus County Commission on Thursday passed the tentative budget for 2016-17 by a 3-2 vote.

Voting against the tentative budget were commissioners Dennis Damato and Scott Adams.

The tentative budget is $255,378,772 or a 1.75% increase from 2015/2016 budget of $250,983,322. The final vote will be held on at 5:01 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the commission chambers at 110 N. Apopka Ave. in Inverness.

County begins storm debris collection

Citrus County’s storm debris contractor will commence the first of two roadside pickups of storm related vegetative and construction debris on Monday, Sept. 19.

Plans are to start in the Old Homosassa area, working from Mason Creek northward.
 
The storm debris will be collected from every publicly accessible road located west of U.S. 19, as long as debris is not mixed and the debris is placed where it can be mechanically collected.

The county asks residents to separate the material into three categories:
