A word about Tropical Storm Hermine

I know that sometimes the weatherman has a tendency to get us all riled up about a storm only for it to be much less significant than promised.

But, let’s not let a few missed marks in the past impede our preparation for what Tropical Storm Hermine could bring over the coming days.

Weather to get dicey soon

Tropical Storm Hermine is now forecasted to make landfall early Friday morning in Taylor County. Citrus is under a Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch. The Hurricane Watch is for the coastal part of the county. Citrus can expect a 3-5ft AGL (above ground level) surge. Tropical storm force winds and gust possible Thursday afternoon and night, mainly in the rain bands. Expect rain through Friday of 6-10” and isolated 15” in parts of the area. There is a tornado threat today through Thursday night.

The final unofficial results have been posted in Citrus County's 2016 primary races.

Depending on your political viewpoint, there were a couple of surprises.

Tropical Storm, Hurricane Watch issued by NOAA


… A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the inland parts of Citrus and surrounding counties  ... And a Hurricane Watch is in effect for the coastal areas of these counties (Updated: 11 p.m. Aug. 30)

A tropical storm watch means tropical storm wind conditions are possible somewhere within this area and within the next 48 hours.

In prepared remarks, Commander Scott said it’s not easy today being a police officer or sheriff’s deputy or even a member of the military.

Juveniles caught pushing stolen car at CR mall

A Citrus County deputy today caught four juveniles pushing a car through the Crystal River Mall parking lot.

The car turned out to be reported as stolen from Ocala, the Sheriff's Office said today.

Sheriff's Office: Know your money

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office recently arrested two suspects for counterfeit money charges.

The Sheriff's Office said that, although this is not a big problem in our area, detectives want local businesses to know how to spot a counterfeit bill.

Homosassa drug house busted

Suspicious activity at a Homosassa residence eventually led to a search warrant on Thursday that uncovered a cache of drugs and resulted in nine arrests.

Earlier this month, members of the Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) received a narcotics complaint at 5740 South Ocelot Point in Homosassa, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said today.

Dickerson sentenced to life

Jeffry Dickerson

Jeffry Dickerson, 61, of Inverness, was sentenced in Judge Howard’s courtroom to life without parole in the Department of Corrections for burglary of a dwelling with a firearm, 15 years prison consecutive for aggravated stalking with a firearm, five years prison consecutive for false imprisonment and five years prison consecutive for aggravated assault with a firearm.

This sentencing follows a guilty verdict from his jury trial on July 20.
