Alleged child kidnapper faces new charges

Jeffrey Story, 20, of Inverness, now faces aggravated battery charges for things he allegedly did to his live-in girlfriend. He was arrested earlier and charged with the kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office today said a man accused of kidnapping a child earlier in the week is facing new charges.

The CCSO said that Jeffrey Story, 20, of Inverness, now faces aggravated battery charges for things that he allegedly did to his live-in girlfriend, also the mother of his child.

Fire claims Homosassa home

An early morning fire destroyed a 700-square-foot home in Homosassa on Wednesday.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Fire Rescue responded at 1:52 a.m. to the residential structure fire at 5720 S. South Division Ave. in Homosassa.

County selects new health head

Ernesto "Tito" Rubio

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved Ernesto "Tito" Rubio (no relation to Marco) as the new administrator of the Citrus County Health Department.

The 13-year veteran of the Florida Department of Health will take over the reins on Dec. 21, and was the unanimous choice of an interview committee.

He has served as chief financial officer of the Palm Beach County Health Department, administrative services director for the state health department and business manager for Indian River Health Department.
